Avon Peaking Power is jointly owned by Engie Global Developments, Legend Power Solutions, Mitsui, and The Peaker Trust.

ENGIE stands as a global powerhouse in the energy and services sector, boasting over 15 years of dedicated presence in South Africa. It has the distinction of being South Africa’s premier and largest Independent Power Producer (IPP), operating with a capacity exceeding 1.3GW. The company employs a robust team of over 300 professionals, all driven by a commitment to operational efficiency and safety excellence.

At its core, ENGIE focuses on three primary sectors:

  1. Low-carbon power generation, emphasizing natural gas and renewable energy.
  2. Global energy networks.
  3. Tailored customer solutions.

In the South African landscape, ENGIE has pioneered the construction and operation of Africa’s first hydrogen plant at the Mogalakwena mine. Additionally, ENGIE is a proud founding member of the Hydrogen Valley initiative, partnering with Anglo American and the Department of Science and Technology.

Founded in 2005, Legend Power Solutions stands as a preeminent South African entity, boasting a majority black ownership of 71.8%. The company was established with a clear mandate to navigate and seize opportunities presented by South Africa’s evolving electricity landscape. With an ambitious vision, they aim to carve out a significant role in the independent power generation arena. In pursuit of this, they’ve strategically allied with top-tier international firms, each bringing a rich tapestry of technical, financial, and managerial expertise in the realm of electricity power generation.

The strength of Legend Power Solutions lies in its team—a diverse mix of accomplished business leaders, innovative entrepreneurs, and adept engineers. Together, they bring to the table a collective experience that exceeds 75 years. This spans across multiple facets including electric power generation, power project conceptualization and development, and comprehensive power plant management. Furthermore, their profound understanding of South Africa’s electricity and energy markets positions them uniquely in the industry.

Mitsui operates with a unique organizational structure that is anchored on two pivotal axes: Products and Regions. This deliberate structuring allows Mitsui to harness the distinct strengths inherent in each division, whilst promoting seamless collaboration across the units.

Their diversified portfolio encompasses a broad spectrum of products and services, including:

  • Metals: Catering to various industries with high-quality metallic products.
  • Machinery and Infrastructure: Providing the backbone for key developmental projects.
  • Chemicals: Offering a range of solutions for varied applications.

The Peakers Trust was instituted with a clear mission: to champion the cause of Broad-Based Black Enterprises, with a special emphasis on empowering women, workers, the youth, and individuals with disabilities. Additionally, the trust is dedicated to aiding Small, Medium, and Micro-sized Enterprises (SMMEs), especially those residing in the vicinity of the Avon and Dedisa power plants.

The Trust’s core objectives for its beneficiaries encompass:

  • Individual Empowerment Making a direct impact on the lives of individuals, enabling them to achieve their aspirations.
  • Rural Cooperatives Facilitating the establishment of cooperatives in rural areas, fostering self-sustenance and community growth.
  • Infrastructure Development Lending a hand in providing essential infrastructure to underserved regions.
  • Local Socio-economic Initiatives Committing to local projects and ventures that boost social and economic development for the duration of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
