The Avon and Dedisa Peaking Power Plants are state-of-the-art Open Cycle Gas Turbine facilities.

Commissioned by the South African Department of Energy, the Avon and Dedisa Peaking Power Plants are state-of-the-art Open Cycle Gas Turbine facilities. Their primary function is to ensure a reliable supply of electricity during periods of peak demand, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to sustainable and dependable energy solutions.

  • Peaking Power plants play a critical role in stabilizing the national grid by addressing its varying power demands. In instances of unexpected surge in electricity demand, these plants provide supplemental power to the grid, acting as an extensive and dependable reserves of energy.
  • Avon Peaking Power and Dedisa Peaking Power stand as South Africa’s premier large-scale independent power producer endeavours. The electricity they generate is supplied to Eskom under a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement.
  • Initiated in 2013 by a consortium of national and global sponsors, the projects culminated in the establishment of two greenfield “Build-Own-Operate-and-Maintain” Open Cycle Gas Turbine facilities: Avon and Dedisa.
  • Their construction catalysed the creation of over 2,500 jobs, infusing an impressive investment of R10 billion into the South African energy sector. Presently, Avon and Dedisa jointly bolster the nation’s energy security with a capacity of up to 1,005 MW.
  • Our company secured medium to long term agreements for essential resources, ensuring a consistent supply of fuel and water, pivotal for the plants’ efficient and long-term operation.
