Avon and Dedisa Peaking Power collectively bolster the energy grid with a substantial contribution of over 1,005 MW, enhancing energy stability and security.

Owned by Avon Peaking Power (RF) Pty Ltd, the Avon Peaking Power facility is a prominent energy generator situated in Shakaskraal, KwaZulu Natal province. This facility plays a pivotal role in supplying electricity to the National Grid during periods of peak demand and in emergency situations.

  • Beyond its core electricity generation capability, Avon also serves a regulatory function, helping to stabilize the grid by counteracting network voltage fluctuations. Advantageously positioned adjacent to an existing high-voltage substation, the facility channels electricity into the transmission system at 275 kV.
  • Boasting a capacity of 670 MW, this greenfield OCGT facility reached its commercial operation milestone on July 20th, 2016, following a construction phase of 30 months.

Dedisa Peaking Power, owned by Dedisa Peaking Power (RF) Pty Ltd, stands as a crucial energy generator in the Coega IDZ, Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape.

  • Serving as a primary source of electricity to the National Grid during peak hours and emergencies, Dedisa goes beyond mere power generation. It also plays a vital role in grid stabilization by managing network voltage fluctuations. Strategically located next to a high-voltage substation, Dedisa channels its generated electricity into the transmission system at an impressive 400 kV.
  • This 335 MW greenfield OCGT facility commenced its commercial operations on September 30th, 2015, following an efficient 24-month construction phase. Notably, Dedisa′s construction phase made a significant positive impact on Port Elizabeth and the broader Eastern Cape′s economy. It did so by generating employment opportunities and opting for local procurement, thus bolstering the provincial economy.
